History: Detour had been active in the alternative cinematic scene in Rome since early 2009 and counting more than 13,000 regular members in our mailing list. Detour project is the fruit of passion for cinema of young university students, which Fulfilled their self own potential and good will, in forming a group of people which brought this project to life. Our cinema club aimed all 2009 to be an alternative screening spot, a place where one can appreciate the works and art of independent filmmakers and can share our passion for film, we present new styles and various film genre
Detour is an open space for creativity and ideas, our motto is “land of no one and land for everyone”.
It’s not by chance that “Detour” it’s the first one to appear in the Italian google motor search by writing “cineclub”. All those years we have maintained an independent free spirit and close personal relations with our viewers and collaborators, our cineclub is more of a gathering place than the usual screening hall; we believe that an open dialogue with our audience is the essential characteristics of our venue, this is a place where there are no barriers between the artist and the audience, our aim is to bring the viewer a step further in the understanding of the film language and help exposing the audience to different faces of filmmaking and cinema.

Organisational structure: Non profit cultural association.

Editorial Line: We give to our audience an opportunity to see films and audio visual works that they can’t see in conventional cinema hall, films that unfortunately didn’t find a distribution in the market for political and commercial reasons, We show fictions and documentaries with social value made by young Italian and foreign filmmakers. We search to increase the curiosity for old and new audio visual works. During the years detour has promoted and organized countless events and became a benchmark for independent filmmakers like:Matteo Garrone, Federico Rizzo, Simone Scafidi, Vittorio Rifranti, Marco Pozzi, Andrea di Bari, Michele Capozzi, Mariano Equizzi, Paolo Pisanelli, Davide Mancori, Louis Nero, Varo Venturi, Angelo Orlando, Nazzareno Bomba,Peter Marcias, Luca Calvanelli, Pietro Reggiani, Mauro Magazzino,Davide Alfonsi, Alessandro Fusto, Denis Malagnino , Antonio Tentori e Antonio Bruschini, Giona A. Nazzaro, Edo Bertoglio, Mauro Jhon Capace, Franco Fracassi, Jun Ichikawa, Hal Yamonouchi, Andrea di Bari,Giuseppe Amodio, Deborah Farina, Berardo Carboni, Vittorio Moroni, malastradafilm and many others and maestri del cinema like: Dario Argento, Ruggero Deodato, Amos Poe, Edo Bertoglio, Michelangelo Antonioni, Lloyd Kaufman, Joe D’amato, Enrico Ghezzi, Luigi di Gianni, Tonino Valerii, Sergio Sollima, Raffaele Andreassi, Sergio Stivaletti, Lamberto Bava, Guido Chiesa, Daniele Segre, Gualtiero Jacopetti, Franco E. Prosperi, Corso Salani, Vittorio De Seta and many more.

Regularity: We are open for nine months a year, six days a week, from Tuesday till Sunday.

Other stuff: We also offer concerts and live soundtrack performances of masterpieces of the cinema two times a month.
An Art exhibition generally every three months, filmmaking and cinematic critic courses for normal people and disable people.
Theatre plays, readings, books and magazines presentations, philosophical debates.

Publicity: We promote it on internet (website, myspace, facebook, mailinglist), daily and monthly newspapers, flayers of the main programme and of special events, on the local radios.

Audience: We have all kind of people and of all ages. Our audience is multiethnic and there are groups with different interests as an example: after work community, disable people, gay association, people who likes asian movies, horrors, videoart, animations, cinema d’essai, documentaries and etc…

Funding: A full active and independent organization running thanks to the help of our volunteers management and the loyalty of our audience who support this unique cultural and non commercial reality with donations. Sometimes we receive founding for special projects or festivals.
