1 screen, 50 seats (but people usual lay on the floor).

Tech: Video (all sorts of formats from VHS to DVcam) Lately we have been trying to present the films on 16-mm.

History: In 2007, we decided to open our studio, a former Merchant Sailors Union’s headquarters. The space is shaped as a small theater and its all covered with mural paintings, portraying the portuguese maritime odyssey.
The name Oporto came from the fact that it was here that the sailors use to come before heading to the port of Lisboa.
The space is directed by artist Alexandre Estrela, in cooperation with designers and associate program managers Antonio Gomes and Claudia Castelo a.k.a. Barbara Says and artist Miguel Soares.

Organisational structure: It has no legal status.

Editorial Line:Oporto devotes each session to a single unique experimental video or film. This way we try to restore an aura lost in massive screenings and extensive retrospectives. The program is tough , exquisite and extremely slow. The selection of the pieces screened is made, not only on the basis of the work itself, but also on an overall idea of an exquisite corpse .

Regularity: One night once per month (more or less).

Other stuff: No.

Publicity: We pass the word by email and handled flyers.

Audience: It is quite eclectic and crowded.

Funding: Most of the time we sponsor it ourselves. We have a great help for the technical devices , GAU- Gestão de Audiovisuais. Whenever the artist is coming we try to share the expenses with other people and institutions. (Faculdade de Belas Artes de Lisboa, Filho Unico, Goethe Institute).
